Marketing like a human – a 6 week live program

May 3 – June 7

“being myself with my customers is so much better.”

This is what I hear from my clients when they realize they can be great at marketing while also:

  • Being true to themselves
  • Living in alignment with their values
  • Prioritizing relationships over money
  • Meeting everyone’s deep and real needs

In other words, you can market like a human being and be successful.

Did you know marketing can be about…

  • Expression
  • Connection
  • Sharing?

People who have learned how to connect what matters most to them, express it through their business, and share that message with their customers, can love marketing while feeling confident and successful.

You don’t need to play games to market your business.

To powerfully connect with and serve your tribe in business, you do need be clear on what it is you have to say, why it is yours to say, and how to share your message in ways that serve the world.

Grounding your communication strategy on that foundation, your message will always be more powerful than simply applying some “top ten tips” for Pinterest.

You, your business, and your customers deserve your real message to be shared with clarity and authenticity.

the marketing like a human program…

presents a way to approach marketing that is meaningful and powerful – for you, your customer, and your business.

Good marketing is about clearly and skillfully communicating what’s important and true about you and your business, while connecting that with what is true in your customer.

It’s not about reading another post on marketing tips, and getting everything “right.” It’s about truth, clarity, and connection.

The Marketing Like Human Program leads you through steps to:

  1. Come into greater awareness and clarity of your vision and possibilities
  2. Enter into rich and balanced relationship with your customers
  3. Identify the skills you already have and how that fits with effective marketing methods
  4. Develop a do-able strategy that feels good, works, and you can immediately implement
  5. Understand the process of creating a human marketing strategy for your use for years to come

Hi, I’m Sarah

Sarah Toney

Sarah Toney

Founder of Bonfire Tribe

I've been a marketing professional for over 12 years and have explored many sides of this work. I know how marketing was taught in my MBA program, what it was like in corporate settings, and how different all that felt from marketing my own small business.

I love small business and the people who dream them up and nurture them into reality. As a coach and consultant, I bring all that I've learned about marketing and about people into this program to help you become confident and powerful in your marketing, business, and (just maybe!) your life.

client perspectives

(I enjoyed) the application of humanity to marketing and (Sarah’s) beautiful way of offering a new perspective on a usually cold subject.

in 6 weeks, you’ll move from frustration and doubt

to confidence and clarity

Week 1: Laying the Foundation

Week 1, we focus on how marketing and business can actually be life and soul-enriching activities. We talk about what gets in the way and how we can begin to approach our assumptions of business differently. We also begin to shift our perspective from what I do not have and who I am not, to what I do have and who I am.

Clarity comes from inside, instead of scanning the outside world.

Week 2: Getting Relationships Right

Marketing and sales is a lot like getting married. Ideally, we need time and quality interaction to enter into business with each other with trust and openness that something great can happen. The quality of our relationships matter. Our typical ways of marketing and sales has a lot more to do with manipulation than invitation, so in this week, we spend some time covering elements of healthy relationships and effective communication, based on models developed by Dr. Ronald Short, PhD. This week could be worth the whole price of admission, because what we talk about in week 2 applies to every relationship we have. But we’ll take the next step and apply this to how we market in “right relationship” with our customers, and ourselves.

Week 3: Clarifying Your Vision

Getting in touch with what is yours to express. What is your truth? We’ll participate in visualizations, including applying the metaphor and model of the bonfire to your business. We’ll address product mix, pricing, as well as stakeholders, business touch points, and relationships. We’ll also explore the “felt sense” and emotions in your visualized business.

Week 4: Creating the Message

Week 4 is the beginning of bringing these threads together – your awareness, clarity, relationships, vision, and felt sense of your business and applying language, color, sound, emotion, sensation, and music. We’ll work on creating a clear, succinct, yet powerful positioning statement that feels true and identify the major themes of your communication.

Week 5: Weaving Your Strategy

Marketing is essentially storytelling and you’re telling the story of you and your business. During this week, you’ll consider your skills, available time, and how you already enjoy telling stories and sharing with the world. Along with your message/feel discerned in week 4, we’ll pick the marketing methods that suit your interests, capabilities, restraints, which also serve your message.

Week 6: Preparing to Flourish

By the end of week 6, you’ll have a plan for marketing that integrates all the elements of the preceding weeks, along with the addition of an editorial calendar to help keep your focus in place. We’ll also talk about how to self-correct, continue with self-awareness, and how to recruit support for long-term success.

  • Weekly homework questions

When you register, you’ll have immediate access to the dashboard, forum, and initial resources to begin your journey.

Calls will be recorded and provided for viewing later, if you missed the program.

others’ experience in marketing like a human?

“In general, (I love) the bonfire analogy – it feels so much more human and now I know I am not crazy for wanting my business to feel this way!”

Taylor

“I feel validated and like I am doing the right thing. I really appreciated the brainstorming type feedback and the confidence that came out of our meetings.”

Karen

“(I appreciated) the permission to be vulnerable and to kick ass.”

Like anything great, business is simply too hard for any of us to do well on our own.

We need our tribe to help us find our message and have the courage to share it as boldly as possible. This approach to marketing is inherently scary. It is  vulnerable to identify what is most powerful to you, declare it, and invite others to join with you in that expression.

To be that bold over and over again, you need the support of a community. And ideally a coach.

Community engagement with one-on-one feedback is critical

community

A community of fellow travelers is the most important element in this program. The community of this course is active and facilitated by Sarah to ensure the conversation is rich, helpful, engaging, and safe. This course is designed for you to go as deep into your process as you are willing, and the community is designed to hold you in your journey. You’ll be encouraged (though not required) to share your homework and insights with the community, so that everyone has the opportunity to learn from each other. You’ll also have the opportunity to receive feedback and encouragement from other genius entrepreneurs.

Coach Office Hours

Along with being active in the community, Sarah will offer “office hours” of two hours of live chat every week in the forum for:

  • Extra support and feedback on homework and ideas
  • All of your questions, including ones submitted in advance for those who can’t attend
  • Additional resources

This program is for you if you:

  • Want to make the world a better place through business
  • Struggle in committing to marketing on a regular basis
  • Know you could connect with your customer more effectively
  • Want to create a strategy that’s grounded in your values and vision
  • Want a meaningful strategy with a process to continue to improve and refine your marketing approach for years to come

If this sounds like you, this is your tribe!

This program isn’t for you if:

  • You’re looking for a quick fix
  • You don’t care to integrate your values or a sense of you into your marketing
  • Your number one priority is closing sales, regardless of relationship
  • “Extracting value” from your customers seems like a good idea

These are valid points of view.  However, if this is where you are coming from, this isn’t your program.

Time Investment

To make the most of the experience, be prepared for one to two hours of homework per week, plus calls, office hours, and community time. Your full time investment may take 6-8 hours per week, which will result in a marketing strategy grounded in your values, vision, strengths, while building relationship with your customer. This program isn’t about tips and tricks. It’s about getting grounded and creating a foundation. I’m sure you’ve found there are plenty of tips and tricks for marketing to be found, but they all skip these elemental steps of creating this strong foundation from which you can speak with confidence, generosity, and a sense of freedom. Marketing can be a meaningful experience for you and your customer. It can allow you to speak from your soul and imbue your business with authenticity, ultimately saving you time while growing your business.

Are you ready?

Each week of this course is powerful enough to stand alone, but in conjunction, you’ll find yourself in a whole new place with your business, your marketing, and with a new tribe of people to support you moving forward. In fact, this program is packed with deep content that will serve you for years to come.

Pricing

  • Pricing for comparable courses, can range into the $1,000s
  • Membership programs for 6 weeks of support, plus office hours could easily be $500+
  • Plus, worksheets and resources for your ongoing use

So, good news!

I am happy to offer this course for $189 for:

  • Live six week program with discussion, questions, and feedback
  • Resources and worksheets for every week of the program
  • Forum community with facilitated discussion
